The Boston Bruins made a significant trade, sending goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. This move was inevitable as Jeremy Swayman emerged as the No. 1 goalie in Boston, leading to Ullmark being traded. Despite their friendly relationship and hugs after victories, the Bruins needed to make a change due to Swayman’s rise and Ullmark’s impending free agency.
In return for Ullmark, the Bruins received goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, forward Mark Kastelic, and the 25th overall pick in the 2024 draft from the Senators. Ottawa will also retain 25% of Korpisalo’s salary. The trade is one of several major goaltending moves happening in the NHL this month, with teams looking to solidify their goaltending positions for the upcoming season. The New Jersey Devils acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames while the Los Angeles Kings acquired Darcy Kuemper from the Washington Capitals. Goalie movement seems to be a trend this off-season.
