Malama I Ke Ola Health Center on Maui Shuts Down Due to Major Computer Problem, Leaving Patients Frustrated and Worried

The Malama I Ke Ola Health Center in Wailuku, Maui, recently experienced a major computer problem that resulted in the closure of the facility and limited services for patients. The center, which serves nearly 12,000 patients according to federal data, provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to keiki to kupuna on the island.

Patients visiting the health center have been greeted with folding tables and chairs outside the facility, as handwritten signs direct them where to go for services. Many patients, like registered nurse Machayla Culver and Paul Terry, have expressed frustration over the lack of information about the computer issues and the impact it has had on accessing their medical records.

Despite receiving text messages about the closure due to IT issues on May 7th, patients have not been given clear answers about the cause of the problem. Some patients have raised concerns about the security of their personal information, especially with the launch of a new electronic health record system on April 20th.

Although management at Malama I Ke Ola Health Center has not provided detailed explanations, patients are hoping for more information soon. Hawaii News Now attempted to reach out to management for additional details but was told that more information would be released the following day.
