Manchester City and Premier League face Legal Battle: Will They Find Common Ground?

Experts believe that a settlement between the City and the Premier League is unlikely.

Manchester City is facing 115 charges of breaching Premier League regulations, a claim that the club denies. This ongoing legal battle between the two entities is the focus of the latest episode of BBC Radio Manchester’s We’re Not Really Here podcast. In addition to this charge, City and the Premier League are also in a hearing regarding the legality of the league’s associated party transaction (APT) rules, which establish fairness in sponsorship deals.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire and lawyer Stefan Borson discussed a possible settlement before any charges were heard. Maguire proposed that a settlement could save both parties money and allow them to claim victory. However, he acknowledged that public opinion and media scrutiny may make it difficult for both parties to reach an agreement. Borson echoed this sentiment, stating that finding common ground at this stage, so close to the hearing, would be highly unlikely.
