Richland County residents in need of affordable technology will soon have access to low-cost, high-speed internet solutions thanks to a new partnership between the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (MRCPL) and PCs for People. To kick off their partnership, MRCPL will host a pop-up shop on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Eligible customers can purchase a range of devices at the pop-up shop, including a $150 laptop, a $75 desktop computer with monitor, keyboard, and mouse, or a $60 internet hotspot. MRCPL encourages pre-registration for the event to ensure eligibility.
The partnership is part of MRCPL’s efforts to bridge the digital divide in Richland County and provide essential devices for virtual schooling, career assistance, and more. Chris May, the Library Director, is excited about the potential impact of this partnership and believes it will make technology more accessible to those in need.
PCs for People is a national nonprofit social enterprise that refurbishes computers, laptops, tablets, and non-tube TVs to provide affordable technology to eligible customers. In addition to offering affordable tech, MRCPL and PCs for People are also promoting electronics recycling by hosting a drive on Saturday, June 1 at the Main Library’s east parking lot. Community members can drop off their used computers
