Matchbox Embraces Sustainability: Introducing an Electric Mercedes-Benz Die-Cast Car Made from Recycled Materials

Matchbox introduces the Mercedes-Benz G 580 die-cast car featuring EQ Technology

Mattel’s Matchbox brand is taking a big step towards sustainability with the introduction of a new die-cast car. The car, modeled after an electric Mercedes-Benz vehicle, is made from 99.5% recycled metal and at least 81% ISCC-certified plastic. The design of the car is inspired by the electric version of the iconic off-road Mercedes-Benz vehicle and features a blue exterior and black interior, with a base that allows for easy display on the packaging lid.

The production of this eco-friendly die-cast car aligns with Matchbox’s Driving Toward a Better Future campaign, launched in 2022. The aim is to promote sustainability values and environmental awareness among consumers by adding electric vehicles to the brand’s collection and working towards a goal of having 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastics in toys and packaging by 2030.

According to Roberto Stanichi, the Global Head of Vehicles at Mattel, these efforts towards sustainability aim to use more environmentally friendly materials while still delivering high-quality replicas of popular vehicles to fans. The collaboration with Mercedes-Benz for the Matchbox Mercedes-Benz G 580 With EQ Technology model is part of this ongoing commitment.

Mercedes-Benz is excited to see their electric models represented in the Matchbox range, with Michael Knöller, Head of Off-Road Vehicles division and CEO of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH, confident that the model will appeal to enthusiasts far and wide. In addition to this model, Matchbox has plans to introduce more Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles in the Moving Parts Series later this year. The Matchbox Mercedes-Benz G 580 With EQ Technology is available for preorder exclusively on the Mattel Creations shop.
