Measles Alert in Los Angeles County: Unidentified Traveler Poses Health Risk

On Saturday, Los Angeles County health officials issued a warning about an unidentified traveler with measles who visited various locations in the county between March 30 and April 1. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health received notice from the California Department of Public Health regarding the individual’s presence.

The traveler, who is not a resident, visited nearly a dozen locations during those three days, primarily in Universal City and at the Sheraton hotel near L.A. International Airport. According to health officials, the individual visited Universal’s trolley and several rides, the Sheraton’s gym, and local restaurants. The full list of locations is available online. Other possible exposure locations are currently being investigated by authorities.

Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis emphasized the importance of vaccination, stating that measles can spread through the air and direct contact before symptoms appear, leading to severe illness. Davis also mentioned that measles is highly contagious among those who are not immune. Symptoms of measles can appear up to three weeks after exposure. It is crucial for individuals who may have been exposed to monitor their health closely and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms.
