Medical Convention Negotiations: Progress, But Delayed Due to Time Constraints

The scheduled signing session for the new medical convention between the management of Cnam and unions representing independent doctors in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) at the Health Insurance headquarters had to be postponed due to a tight deadline. Despite this, it’s important to note that this does not mean they are not willing to approve the draft of the new medical convention for the next five years. Some organizations were unable to organize consultations with their members based on their status before the deadline.

The final round of negotiations took place on May 16 and 17, resulting in a text consisting of 177 pages and 248 pages of annexes being sent to unions on May 22. In order for the text to become effective, it must be signed by unions that together represent at least 30% of the votes cast during the last elections in each of the two liberal doctors’ colleges, without any organization representing 50% of the votes showing direct opposition.

The Federation of Physicians of France (FMF) reported that 58% of their members voted in favor, while CSMF also supported the agreement. These positive results from general practitioners are significant steps towards reaching an agreement. Currently, Health Insurance is waiting for feedback from the last two specialist organizations, and a decision on approval is expected soon. Once one specialist union signs off, the text will become effective six months later, starting in December. The negotiations have shown progress, and all parties involved are eagerly anticipating a resolution.

In summary, while there was a delay due to a tight deadline, this does not indicate that either party is unwilling to approve the new medical convention for five years. Many general practitioners have already voted in favor, with CSMF supporting them as well. Health Insurance is now waiting for feedback from two specialist organizations before making a decision on approval within days.
