Monta Vista High School and Kennedy Middle School Take Top Honors at 40th Annual Science Olympiad National Tournament

In late May, student teams from Monta Vista High School and Kennedy Middle School achieved top honors at the 40th annual Science Olympiad National Tournament held at Michigan State University in East Lansing. This was a remarkable achievement for both teams, with Monta Vista’s team celebrating their first win while Kennedy’s team celebrated a back-to-back victory.

One of the standout performers was Ishanvi Kommula, a student from Monta Vista, who was one of five high school seniors to receive a $10,000 Founders’ Scholarship from the Science Olympiad USA Foundation. The scholarship recognized her exceptional achievements and dedication to science.

The Science Olympiad competition featured 120 middle school and high school teams that had advanced from state-level competitions. Students participated in hands-on and lab events covering various topics such as engineering, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, chemistry, robotics, and coding. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience for all participants.
