MultiVersus Officially Launches: A Fresh Perspective on the Competitive Fighting Game Market

“MultiVersus” – A Free Fighting Video Game Featuring Characters from DC Comics, Looney Tunes, and Game of Thrones Fighting Each Other

On May 28th, “MultiVersus” officially launched after two months of testing. The game brings together characters owned by Warner Bros. such as Batman and Bugs Bunny, and aims to carve out a place in the competitive fighting game market. El Comercio had the opportunity to test the title in advance and speak with Ian Rapoport, designer at Player First Games, who expressed his excitement about the project’s official release.

Since its initial testing phase that saw around 20 million players in 2022, “MultiVersus” has made significant advances. The game now features improvements in its online gameplay to reduce lag, the addition of new characters, new progression systems to keep users engaged, and a PVE game mode called “Rifts.”

The gameplay of “MultiVersus” is similar to “Super Smash Bros.,” with a simplified combat system that includes regular actions like moving, jumping, and dodging, as well as regular and special attack buttons. Players aim to throw their opponents off the screen rather than deplete their health bars to zero. The addition of Rifts provides players with a PVE option to face challenges against the computer for various rewards.

“MultiVersus” currently features two main game modes: 1v1 fights and 2v2 team duels. The online experience has greatly improved with the use of ‘rollback netcode’ to reduce lag and create a more fluid gameplay experience. The cast of characters in the game includes 26 different options from various Warner Bros. properties, each with unique characteristics and abilities.

While comparisons to “Super Smash Bros.” are inevitable due to similarities in mechanics and selection of characters from popular franchises like DC Comics and Looney Tunes among others; “MultiVersus” offers enough mechanical and selection differences to stand on its own as a worthy addition to the fighting game genre. With a mix of popular and lesser-known characters engaging gameplay mechanics, improved online experience; “MultiVersus” is an exciting new entry into this genre that’s worth trying out on various platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
