National Regroupment Secures Close Second in Electoral Survey: What Does it Mean for French Politics?

Far-right party under Marine Le Pen nears absolute majority in new poll

The National Regroupment (RN), led by Marine Le Pen, has secured first place in a recent electoral survey, with 36% of the votes. This is just 9% behind the left-wing New Popular Front. President Emmanuel Macron’s bloc came in third with 20%, followed by the conservative Republicans (LR) with 10%. While it is difficult to determine seat projections before the first round, the survey suggests that the RN and its allies could win between 250-280 deputies, which is close to an absolute majority of 289. The left alliance is expected to secure between 150-170 seats, while the Macronist majority could fall to between 90-110 deputies and the LR to between 35-45. Other smaller formations may have around 10-12 seats.

The survey also predicts a significant increase in voter participation, with around 60% of those surveyed affirming that they will vote. This is a significant increase compared to previous elections, where participation was at only around 47.5%.
