New Central Ohio Technical College Respiratory Therapy Technology Program Set to Launch in Fall 2021: Filling a Critical Gap in the Healthcare Field

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is introducing a new two-year associate degree program in respiratory therapy technology. The program, which is pending accreditation confirmation, will start this autumn at the Newark campus. COTC has branch campuses in Coshocton, Mount Vernon, and Pataskala.

Tyler Richards, the program director, stated that the growing demand for respiratory therapists prompted the development of this program. He highlighted the fact that the number of retiring therapists is higher than those entering the workforce. This gap needs to be addressed by preparing students for careers as respiratory therapists.

Respiratory therapists play a vital role in the medical field, assisting individuals with lung diseases or disorders in their recovery and rehabilitation. They work in various settings such as emergency departments, intensive care units, and rehabilitation centers. The COTC program combines classroom instruction with clinical placements to provide students with a well-rounded education.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the registered respiratory therapist (RRT) credential offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). This credential opens up opportunities for graduates to work in the field with an annual median wage of $65,760 according to Ohio Labor Market information. Students may also apply for a limited permit one year into the program to gain practical experience while studying.

Interested individuals can apply for the program by submitting a free application for admission and a respiratory therapy technology program application on or before June 15th. For more information about COTC’s respiratory therapy technology program or any other questions regarding admission requirements or applications, please visit www.cotc.edu/respiratorytherapytechnology or contact our admissions office at [insert contact information here]. COTC is excited to launch this new program and help meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in Licking County and beyond!
