New Era Acquires Iconic ’47 Brand: A New Chapter in Boston’s Sports Apparel Scene

NBC Boston reports that a renowned Boston sports apparel company, famous for its Fenway store, has been sold.

In a major development for the Boston sports apparel scene, New Era, a Buffalo-based competitor, has acquired the iconic ’47 brand. Known for its baseball hats, T-shirts and other apparel, New Era has purchased the former Twins Enterprise, despite keeping ’47’s local headquarters in Westwood.

The acquisition marks a new chapter for ’47, which was founded in 1947 by Henry and Arthur D’Angelo, twin brothers after whom the company was named. Their family-run business became synonymous with the fan experience around Fenway Park. The company’s store across Jersey Street from the ballpark was a popular destination for fans on game days. In fact, it was recognized by Major League Baseball as being the first to produce team pennants.
