The 49ers have announced a new four-year contract for running back Christian McCaffrey, which will keep him with the team until 2027. The deal has a new-money average of $19 million per year, which is $3 million higher than his previous high-water mark.

The full details of the new contract include a signing bonus of $14.29 million and base salaries for each year, with additional roster bonuses and an offseason workout bonus. In 2024, McCaffrey will earn a base salary of $1.21 million along with a per-game roster bonus totaling $500,000. In 2025, he will have an option bonus of $14.245 million, with $8.5 million guaranteed at signing and due to be paid on April 1. His base salary in 2025 will be $1.255 million, with additional roster bonuses and an offseason workout bonus.

From 2026 to 2027, McCaffrey will have two option bonuses totaling $34.79 million ($10.55 million and $16.85 million). His base salaries during this time will be $1.3 million and $16.85 million respectively, along with per-game roster bonuses and an offseason workout bonus in each year.

This new contract guarantees McCaffrey a total of $62.79 million over the course of four years from the time of signing, with an average value of approximately $16 millon per year.

Previously, McCaffrey had no guaranteed money in his contract, making this new deal all the more valuable for him as he approaches his late twenties.
