Danville District 118 Board Gives Green Light to Pilot Science Program for 5th – 8th Grade Students

The Danville District 118 School Board has recently approved a budget of $76,100 for a new science program designed for students in fifth through eighth grades. The pilot program, titled “Amplify Science,” will be implemented at multiple schools including North Ridge Middle School, South View Upper Elementary School, Kenneth D. Bailey Academy, and Northeast Magnet School. During a meeting on Wednesday, July 3rd, District 118 Director of Curriculum MaryEllen Bunton shared more information about the new science program. She emphasized the importance of allowing students to actively participate in problem-solving activities rather than providing them with all the answers.

The materials used in the program are designed to spark curiosity and provide students with a solid academic foundation. MaryEllen Bunton explained that the program aims to engage students by presenting them with challenges and encouraging them to explore potential solutions. The pilot program will be introduced in the upcoming fall semester as part of District 118’s ongoing efforts to provide its students with the best possible education.

The Amplify Science program is an exciting addition to District 118’s curriculum offerings. It will give students the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. With the approval of this budget, District 118 is taking an important step towards ensuring that its students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in all areas of life.
