New York Yankees Acquire Versatile Infielder Jordan Groshans from Oakland Athletics in Trade for J.D. Davis

The Oakland Athletics have recently traded designated-for-assignment (DFA) infielder J.D. Davis to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans and cash considerations, as announced by the A’s on Sunday afternoon following a report by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

Jordan Groshans, a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018, has spent most of his career in the minor leagues with a brief major-league stint with the Miami Marlins in 2022 where he hit .262/.308/.312 with one home run and two RBI in 61 at-bats. The 24-year-old utilityman is capable of playing multiple positions, including first base, third base, shortstop, and outfield, providing the A’s with added depth.

Davis was designated for assignment on June 17th after struggling at the plate this season with a .236 batting average, .304 on-base percentage, and .366 slugging percentage along with four home runs and five RBI in 135 at-bats. Despite his struggles at the plate, Davis is considered a valuable asset to the team due to his versatility as an infielder and his defensive prowess.

Welcome to Oakland!
