Newspaper Industry Faces Uncertainty in Switzerland as Fewer People Opt for Printed News

In Switzerland, the closure of more paper factories has left the last Swiss producer of newsprint searching for buyers in Turkey and India. While there is an abundance of used cardboard due to the rise in online shopping and home deliveries, fewer bundles of waste paper are being collected.

The Perlen paper factory in Lucerne is facing challenges as fewer people are reading physical newspapers and magazines, resulting in a decline in sales. With a shortage of recycled paper in Switzerland, the factory is looking abroad for raw materials. Germany has replaced Switzerland as the most important sales market for Perlen, with Italy also becoming a significant market.

In an effort to survive in a shrinking market, Perlen is expanding its customer base to countries like Spain, the Benelux countries, Great Britain, Poland, Scandinavia, Latin America, China, India, and Turkey. However, the company is facing challenges such as fluctuating paper prices, overcapacity, and competition from other manufacturers in the industry.

Despite these challenges
