NMBS Warning: Beware of Fraudulent Social Media Messages Targeting Travelers with Fake Gift Card Offers

The NMBS has issued a warning to travelers about fraudulent messages on social media that are designed to trick people into providing personal information. Scammers are circulating false reports that the Belgian railways are offering a gift card for just two euros to anyone who completes a questionnaire. This card supposedly allows the holder to travel for free throughout Belgium for a year, but in reality, these messages are an attempt to obtain banking information from unsuspecting victims.

To avoid falling prey to these scams, the NMBS advises travelers to ignore any communication that is unexpected, irrelevant, or seems too good to be true. They also caution against sharing personal information or bank details with such offers. Bart Crols, the spokesperson for the railway company, suggests being cautious and verifying any offers before providing any sensitive information.

Despite filing complaints with authorities and social media platforms, misleading messages continue to circulate. The NMBS urges travelers to be vigilant and only rely on official channels of communication. It is crucial to verify all information from official sources before falling for any potential fraud attempts.
