Novant Health Shifts IT Model, Leads to Layoffs of Over 250 Employees in Southeastern NC

Layoffs in IT confirmed by Novant Health to impact southeastern North Carolina

Novant Health in southeastern NC is currently undergoing a shift in its IT model, resulting in the removal of some local roles. The health system announced in 2023 that they would be transferring some Digital Products and Services (DPS) team services to an external partner. In order to streamline resources and continue investing in creating a healthier future for the communities served by Novant Health, additional DPS functions will be shifted to Deloitte Digital. This transition is expected to result in a reduction of the use of other external partners by more than 90 percent.

According to a spokesperson for the health system, less than 300 team members will be impacted by these changes. A WARN Notice from the NC Department of Commerce confirmed that 81 people were laid off in Forsyth County. News sources also report that over 170 employees will be laid off as well. The restructuring of roles and responsibilities is expected for DPS team members, with some roles being phased out.

Despite the impact on less than 0.8% of the nearly 40,000 positions across the health system, Novant Health is offering opportunities for affected team members to join external partners or transition to roles within the organization. Resources are being provided to help ease the transition for these employees, and the health system expresses gratitude for their service to Novant Health and its patients. Copyright 2024 WECT.
