Oakland Athletics Acquire Versatile Jordan Groshans from New York Yankees for J.D. Davis

A’s trade Khris Davis and cash to Yankees in exchange for prospect Jordan Groshans

The Oakland Athletics have recently traded infielder J.D. Davis to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans, as reported by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Sunday.

Davis was designated for assignment on June 17 after a disappointing performance this season, batting .236/.304/.366 with four home runs and five RBI in 135 at-bats. In contrast, Groshans is a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018 and has primarily played in the minor leagues, with a brief major-league appearance with the Miami Marlins in 2022. During that appearance, he hit .262/.308/.312 with 16 hits, one home run, and two RBI in 61 official at-bats.

Groshans is a versatile utilityman who is expected to provide Oakland with depth at several positions, including first base, third base, shortstop, and outfield. This trade will give Oakland more flexibility in their lineup and improve their defensive capabilities. With this move, the Athletics are positioning themselves to be competitive in the AL West division and make it to the postseason once again.
