Oklahoma ABLE Commission Stands Firm on Holding Businesses Accountable for Serving Minors Amidst New Law

The Oklahoma ABLE Commission has stated that business owners will still be held accountable for serving minors, even after the signing of a bill that removes the requirement for businesses to check IDs before serving alcohol. While the law allows businesses to make their own decision about checking IDs, they are still expected to uphold standards regarding individuals under the age of 21.

Lori Carter from the ABLE Commission emphasized that they are not concerned about the new law as they have never issued tickets solely for failing to check an ID. Tickets are only issued when minors are served, placing the responsibility on business owners to enforce their own policies. Carter reminded business owners to protect their business and consider their liability while keeping the public safe.

Despite this change in law, the ABLE Commission continues to encourage businesses to check IDs. Undercover checks will still be conducted throughout the state, and businesses should be aware of this as they adjust to the new regulations which will take effect on November 1st.
