Opposition Unites in Armenia: One Signature Away from Impeachment, as Archbishop and Deputies Meet to Discuss No Confidence Process

Reverend Bagrat reveals Ishkhan Zakaryan’s decision to participate in the prime minister’s impeachment process.

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the “Tavush for the Motherland” movement, announced at a rally that he had met with independent deputy Ishkhan Zakaryan, who had left the “I have honor” faction in 2021. According to the archbishop, Zakaryan had not declined to participate in the process of expressing no confidence in the Prime Minister. The archbishop expressed optimism and stated that opposition factions had overcome the first stage and only needed to resolve issues regarding support for the prime minister’s candidate and securing the signatures of the remaining 18 deputies.

To present a draft resolution of no confidence in the Prime Minister to Parliament, at least 36 MPs’ signatures are required. Currently, opposition factions “Armenia” and “I have honor” collectively account for 35 deputies. This means that one more deputy’s signature is necessary to move forward with impeachment discussions. Discussions on this topic are ongoing, with updates provided by Gegham Manukan from the “Hayastan” faction. Members of ruling CP party have stated that none of them will be joining this process.
