Embarking on a Journey from Bakersfield to a Tranquil Haven for Advancing Science and Medicine

Anmol Kaur, a native of Bakersfield in the San Joaquin Valley, has recently enrolled at UC Merced for the fall 2024 semester. She is a first-year student with a strong background in science and medicine, following in her parents’ footsteps who have careers in the medical field.

Kaur has always been passionate about science and medicine and was accepted into the second SJV PRIME+ medical education cohort. Growing up in Bakersfield and graduating from Stockdale High School, she maintained a 4.5 GPA and participated in the Project Lead the Way biomedical science program. Kaur gained hands-on experience in analyzing DNA, dissecting organs, and conducting a pig autopsy through this program.

In addition to her passion for science and medicine, Kaur is also an advocate for women’s education and empowerment. She co-founded W.I.S.E (Women in STEM Education), a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating young girls about STEM careers through online seminars, workshops, and scholarships.

Excited to attend UC Merced, Kaur appreciates the university’s peaceful setting in the Central Valley. Her acceptance into the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD pathway was a significant factor in her decision to enroll at the university as she aims to continue exploring her passion for science and medicine while preparing for medical school, volunteering in her community, and building lasting connections with others at UC Merced.

In her free time, Kaur enjoys eating various fruits, considers herself a night owl and dreams of exploring Italy’s scenic towns for a three-day weekend. She looks forward to gaining new experiences while developing strong relationships at UC Merced inspired by the connections formed by previous SJV PRIME+ cohorts.

Overall, Anmol Kaur is an exceptional individual with great aspirations towards science and medicine who will make an impact on society as she continues on her educational journey at UC Merced.
