The New England Patriots have recently signed a new deal with linebacker Jahlani Tavai, extending his contract for another three years. According to ESPN, the agreement includes a base value of $15 million with the potential to increase to $21 million.
Originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Tavai was released from their roster at the start of the 2021 regular season. He then joined the Patriots’ practice squad and has remained with the team ever since. In 2023, Tavai had a standout season, recording 110 total tackles, five tackles for loss, four QB hits, one sack, and two interceptions.
The Patriots have been actively working to re-sign players who were set to expire their contracts this offseason. This latest move follows in the footsteps of running back Rhamondre Stevenson, defensive tackle Christian Barmore, and center David Andrews. With Tavai’s signing, the Patriots continue to strengthen their defense and bolster their roster for future success on the field.
