Polish Chess Players Excel at 2024 FISU Championship for Mind Sports

The FISU World University Championship Mind Sports recently concluded in Entebbe, Uganda, bringing together participants from 16 countries. The event featured competitions in chess and was hosted for the second time by Entebbe, following their successful hosting of the FISU Championship Cross Country in 2014.

The women’s blitz event saw Poland sweep the podium, with Julia Antolak winning gold, Liwia Jarocka taking silver, and Anna Kubicka claiming bronze. In the closely contested women’s classic tournament, Aakanksha Hagawane of India emerged as the gold medal winner, with Saina Salonika finishing in second place and Poland’s Alicja Sliwicka claiming third.

On the men’s side, Milosz Szpar of Poland clinched the gold medal in the classic tournament, with Yovann Gatineau and Benjamin Defromont of France finishing in second and third place respectively. Poland continued their success in the men’s blitz chess event, with Igor Janik securing the gold medal. Richard Mladek of the Czech Republic and Richard Turcan of Slovakia finished in second and third place respectively.

The week-long competition in Entebbe was a showcase of talent and skill on a global stage. Polish players made a strong impact and dominated many events, highlighting their dedication to mind sports.
