The Impact of Climate Change on Human Health: A Featured Topic in Upcoming Science Lecture

“Ready for Change: Building Effective Climate Readiness” is the latest event in the “Science on the Sound” lecture series, held monthly at the Coastal Studies Institute on ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese. The series features speakers from across the state and focuses on coastal topics in northeastern North Carolina.

Dr. Alex Hodges, a clinical professor in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education at East Carolina University, will present on this topic. Her research has focused on climate impacts in Eastern North Carolina, and she has worked with organizations such as Americares and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. As a nurse practitioner, she offers a unique perspective on climate change and its implications for primary care, as well as strategies for being better prepared for related challenges. She is also actively involved in providing primary care at the Community Care Clinic of Dare and serves on the Dare County Board of Health and Human Services.

The “Science on the Sound” series aims to provide diverse perspectives on coastal issues and is open to the public free of charge. The lecture will also be live-streamed on the Coastal Studies Institute YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.
