Preserving Caldwell’s Small-Town Charm: Mayor Wagoner’s State of the City Address

City’s Growth Hinges on Business Partnerships, Says Caldwell’s Mayor

Caldwell Mayor Jarom Wagoner delivered his State of the City address on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of expanding the city’s economy for its future growth. He highlighted the significance of partnerships with new businesses, such as the recently opened D&B Supply retail store, in driving the city’s development forward. These investments not only provide jobs for residents but also contribute to the city’s tax base through retail sales and increased land values.

Despite rapid population growth, with a yearly increase of 5%, Wagoner recognized that ongoing challenges remain in areas such as housing, transportation, and emergency services. He stressed the need for police and fire departments to grow at a similar rate to ensure adequate protection and services for citizens.

The Mayor commended the completion of roadway work on the Caldwell Blvd. corridor and the construction of 142 new residential units near Indian Creek Plaza in downtown. However, he acknowledged residents’ desire to preserve the small-town feel of Caldwell. To maintain this sense of community, social gatherings and community events play a crucial role, and the city will continue to host farmers markets, concerts, and other events to promote community building.

Wagoner reflected on how going to the grocery store used to involve running into familiar faces and expressed a desire to recreate that sense of familiarity in Caldwell. By organizing events throughout the year for residents to come together, he believed that the community would continue to grow and foster connections among its members.
