Diabetes is a serious condition that can have long-term health consequences, but there’s hope. The DOH-Orange in partnership with the University of Florida / IFAS Extension Orange County office is offering FREE Diabetes Prevention Programs to help you prevent this disease. These programs are available both virtually and in-person, so you can choose the option that works best for you.
To qualify for the program, you must be 18 years or older and meet certain criteria such as having an A1C between 5.7 – 6.4 and/or fasting glucose levels of 100-125mg/dl. Other qualifications include a family history of diabetes, a history of gestational diabetes, obesity with a BMI greater than or equal to 25, and completion of the CDC Prediabetes Risk Test with a participating team member.
The program details include group coaching sessions led by a Certified Health Education Specialist, a Certified Diabetic Education Care Specialist, and trained lifestyle coaches. Sessions will be held weekly from July 18 to October 31, 2024, bi-weekly from November 14 to January 16, 2025, and monthly from February 13 to June 12, 2025.
