Prisoner in Nigeria Sues for Medical Records as Money Laundering Trial Delayed for Gambaryan, a Binance Exec; Congress Intervenes in the Case.

The money laundering trial against Binance and two executives in Nigeria has been delayed until July 5 due to the ongoing cross-examination of the first witness from the Securities and Exchange Commission. Tigran Gambaryan, head of financial crime compliance at Binance, has been held in prison since February and is facing charges of money laundering. However, his health is deteriorating, and his family is concerned about his well-being.

Gambaryan’s medical records have not been released despite multiple court orders, which has caused legal issues for his lawyers. Justice Emeka Nwite has ordered that these records be provided to Gambaryan’s legal team by Friday. Meanwhile, another executive who faced similar charges, Nadeem Anjarwalla, escaped custody.

Gambaryan’s family spokesperson expressed their concern about his health issues such as numbness in his foot and back pain while in prison. His wife Yuki Gambaryan has called for her husband’s release emphasizing that he was not a decision-maker at Binance and should not be detained unnecessarily.

The US members of Congress have visited Gambaryan and pushed for further action to be taken by the US government regarding this case. Binance is also facing a separate tax evasion case with the trial being adjourned until July 12 after charges against Gambaryan and Anjarwalla were dropped. However, binance declined to comment on the situation while inquiries were made to the Nigeria SEC and Economic Financial Crimes Commission for further information on this matter.
