Protecting our Health: San Antonio Declares Ozone Action Day for June 8th

Public Alert: Ozone Action Day declared by Metro Health for Saturday, June 8th

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has announced an Ozone Action Day for the San Antonio area on Saturday, June 8, 2024. This will be the second such day in 2024. According to TCEQ, atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in San Antonio tomorrow.

On Ozone Action Days, individuals who are particularly vulnerable to air pollution, such as young children, older adults, and those with respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, should limit their outdoor activities. Those with asthma or difficulty breathing are advised to stay indoors.

To help maintain healthy air quality and reduce pollution levels in San Antonio, residents and businesses are encouraged to take part in pollution-reducing activities. Some suggestions include refueling vehicles after 6 p.m., avoiding drive-thrus at restaurants by going inside instead, turning off vehicles instead of idling, adjusting thermostats to higher temperatures from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., carpooling or using public transportation, and combining errands to reduce trips.

The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is urging everyone to take action in improving air quality and conserving energy. Detailed information about ground-level ozone can be found on Metro Health’s website. By working together and taking simple steps towards a healthier future for our community, we can make a real difference in the fight against air pollution in San Antonio.
