RATP Employees Secure Olympic-Size Bonuses Amidst Paris 2024 Preparations

RATP employees have reached a deal with management on compensation just three months before the Olympics. The 19,000 employees who mobilized this summer will receive bonuses of up to 2,500 euros, with metro drivers being the most highly compensated. To receive the full bonus, employees must not miss more than four days of work between July 22 and September 8. Absences on the fifth day will result in a lower bonus amount. Exceptional event bonuses will also be distributed based on employee requests during events, ranging from 740 to 1,014 euros depending on the number of days present.

Individualized bonuses for RATP employees have an average premium of around 1,000 euros per person according to management. In addition to their salary increase, RATP staff have also agreed to postpone untaken leave until 2025 for up to 11 days. Negotiations for bus drivers and station agents are expected to conclude by next week.

The cost of these bonuses will be calculated at the end of the year and added to the overall budget for increased transport offer during the Games. The transport offer is expected to be 30% higher than that of a normal weekend and 15% higher during the weekdays due to an influx of visitors for the Olympics. To finance this additional cost, Paris’s Mayor Valérie Pécresse is counting on revenues linked to Olympic passes sold to visitors. These passes cost €16 per day for unlimited travel by metro, bus or RER throughout all sites in Paris during the Games.

In other sectors such as police and AP-HP, bonuses allocated this summer are already known but not including tax-free overtime hours linked to events in these sectors led calls for mobilization from various groups. At AP-HP, bonuses range from €800 to €2,500 gross per week depending on employment categories while Civil aviation air traffic controllers benefit from an exceptional increase of +4.5% in their usual bonus
