Record-Breaking Performance by Nick Paul Propels Canada to Semifinals at Ice Hockey World Championship

In the quarterfinals of the ice hockey world championship, defending champion Canada defeated Slovakia 6-3. Nick Paul was the standout player for Canada, scoring two goals to help secure their spot in the semifinals. Dylan Guenther, Jared McCann, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Brandon Tanev also contributed to Canada’s win with goals and assists.

McCann and Dubois quickly found the back of the net early in the opening period, giving Canada a solid lead. Despite a goal from Slovakia’s Peter Cehlarik, Canada maintained their advantage throughout the match. Paul’s second-period goal and two quick goals in the third period by Guenther and Tanev extended Canada’s lead to 5-1.

Despite a comeback effort by Slovakia, with Milos Kelemen and Marek Hrivik scoring to bring the score to 5-3, Paul’s second goal into an empty net sealed the victory for Canada.

In another quarterfinal match, Switzerland eliminated Germany with a 3-1 win in Ostrava. Christoph Bertschy was the standout player for Switzerland, scoring two goals. He was supported by Nico Hischier, who also found the back of the net.

As we look forward to
