The Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina in Saudi Arabia has been chosen to host the upcoming 2024 Youth Match Racing World Championship and the Women’s Match Racing World Championship. These championships will take place from November 29 to December 8, as well as December 5 to 8 respectively, on the Red Sea coast.
World Sailing President Quanhai Li expressed excitement about organizing an event in Saudi Arabia, a rapidly growing sporting market that presents a great opportunity to promote sailing in the region. David Graham, World Sailing Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the significance of this decision in advancing the sport globally, particularly in the Red Sea region which is home to nine million people.
Both championships will feature a maximum of 12 teams utilizing the FarEast 28 racing keelboat. The competition format includes five rounds: a round robin, a repechage, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the Grand Final. Additionally, there will be a Petit Final to determine the third and fourth place finishers.
The World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship is open to participants under the age of 23 by December 31, 2024. Crews must consist of four or five members, including at least one female and one male sailor, with a total weight limit of 350kg.
