A massive fire broke out in Bad Ems at the historic city palace “Four Towers,” which was once frequented by kings and tsars. The flames shot meters into the night sky, and a large cloud of smoke rose into the air, prompting 150 emergency personnel from the Fire department to battle the blaze since the early hours of the morning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the fire is now under control with ongoing firefighting operations.
The building, known for its four corner towers, holds immense historical significance as a popular residence for European monarchs, including Tsar Alexander II. The house was currently undergoing renovations and was supposed to become a hotel opening later this year. However, around 4 a.m. on Wednesday night, flames engulfed the entire roof structure and damaged much of the interior of the building.
Bad Ems Mayor Oliver Krügel expressed his sorrow in an official Facebook video, describing the fire’s impact on the city’s cultural heritage.
