Reunited and Ready to Rush: Austin Ekeler and Anthony Lynn Join Forces in Washington

Austin Ekeler attributes his presence in Washington to Anthony Lynn

Austin Ekeler, who first joined the Chargers in 2017 as an undrafted free agent, is excited to be reunited with his former head coach Anthony Lynn in Washington. During his time with the Chargers, Lynn played a key role in helping Ekeler earn a spot on the team and grow into an important role on the offense. However, following the 2020 season, Lynn was let go as head coach.

Now, Lynn has taken on a new role as the run game coordinator/running backs coach with Washington and has signed Ekeler to a two-year deal in March. In a recent interview with the Rich Eisen Show, Ekeler expressed gratitude towards Lynn for giving him a chance in the NFL and for utilizing him in ways that highlighted his strengths on the field. He is looking forward to working with Lynn and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury to continue developing his skills and contributing to the team.

During his time with Lynn in 2019, Ekeler had one of his best seasons, recording 1,550 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. Last year, in just 14 games, he rushed for 628 yards with five touchdowns and caught 51 passes for 436 yards with a touchdown. The reunion of Ekeler and Lynn brings a sense of familiarity and confidence for both individuals as they look to continue their success together on the field.
