Revisiting the Drilling Site: From Mammoth Lakes to Mammoth Lakes 2

In the beginning of the week, a preload test was conducted on a target called “Mammoth Lakes,” which is located as the rightmost bright ellipse in the workspace image. This test was crucial to determine if the rock was stable before drilling to avoid any unexpected movements or fractures under pressure from the drill. The results of this test were important as they helped prevent any uncontrolled drill slippage or loss of control during drilling operations.

However, despite initial preload test results not meeting our requirements for drilling, the team remained fascinated with the workspace known as “Whitebark Pass.” As a result, they identified another location called “Mammoth Lakes 2,” just around 2.4 inches (6 centimeters) away from the original target. A second preload test was conducted on this new location to assess its suitability for drilling.

The team is determined to gather all necessary information and conduct thorough tests to ensure that drilling operations are safe and effective. By doing so, they hope to achieve their goals while maintaining stability and safety in their process.
