Revitalizing Allentown: The Da Vinci Science Center Opens to the Public with a Grand Impact

Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk was thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Da Vinci Science Center, which has finally opened its doors to the public after years of planning and changes. The $75 million science center is a significant investment in the city, not only for the education of young people but also as a major attraction to draw more people downtown.

The Da Vinci Science Center is expected to attract around 400,000 visitors annually and generate $33 million in revenue for the region. With the recent relocation from Cedar Crest College campus, the center is poised to spark a new wave of redevelopment in Allentown, similar to what happened with the opening of the PPL Center a decade ago.

Numerous developments are already in progress near the new center on Hamilton Street, including apartments, restaurants, and commercial space in former PPL Tower and PPL Plaza buildings. Future attractions like Archer Music Hall will further enhance the tourism draw of the area. Despite being seen as a field trip destination for schools, Executive Director Lin Erickson emphasized that the world-class science center will appeal to families and adult tourists from all over the region.

The Da Vinci Science Center is not just an educational resource but a significant contributor to the economic and cultural vitality of Allentown. In collaboration with Discover Lehigh Valley, the center aims to increase visitor stays in the area by encouraging them to explore other local attractions, restaurants, hotels, and businesses. Moreover, the venue is available for private events such as weddings and corporate meetings, accommodating more than 300 guests. The Da Vinci Science Center’s grand opening marks an exciting new chapter for Allentown’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its downtown area.
