Revitalizing Vienna’s Logistics Hub: Expansion of Haselsteiner and Zöchling’s Center Set for 60 Million Euro Investment

Haselsteiner and Zöchling seek to enlarge logistics hub in Vienna-Aspern

Viennese entrepreneurs Stephan Zöchling and Hans Peter Haselsteiner have unveiled plans to expand their logistics center in Vienna’s 22nd district. The two investors are investing a staggering 60 million euros to build a new logistics hall with a volume of 250,000 cubic meters and a large-scale photovoltaic system on 4.1 hectares of land.

The expansion will be adjacent to the former Konsum logistics center, which Haselsteiner and Zöchling acquired in 2017. The entire property spans 23.6 hectares and has a building permit until the end of 2055, granted by the City of Vienna. The planned logistics hall aims to strengthen existing operational use while supporting the long-term preservation of logistics at the location.

To revitalize the local microclimate, the hall roofs will be designed as green flat roofs and non-lighting facades will be covered with ground-based plants. The City of Vienna will also construct a new road connection to accommodate the operational requirements of the logistics center, which may operate 24/7.

The long-term plan is to connect the logistics site to the high-level road network to redirect logistics traffic away from residential areas. The expansion of Lavaterstrasse to Stadtstrasse will serve as a key development function for the commercial area. Despite some opposition, the project aligns with urban planning objectives and is expected to have a positive impact on the area’s economic development.
