Revolutionizing Transportation Safety with Neuromorphic Sensors: EYE2DRIVE Wins Bio-Inspired Sensor Technology Challenge

We are seeking solvers for the 2024 Bio-Inspired Sensor Technology projects

In October 2023, a Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge was launched with the goal of discovering innovative solutions using neuromorphic sensors for Detection & Tracking applications. Neuromorphic sensors are designed to mimic the functionality of the human eye, including event-based sensors that react to changes in light intensity, sensors that imitate the dynamics of the human eye, and those that use neuromorphic processing.

The EYE-TECH start-up from Carrara, led by Monica Vatteroni and Andrea Raggi, presented their project EYE2DRIVE – Building the digital EYE as one of the winners. They were awarded a 12-month contract for direct collaboration with Leonardo. The project focuses on developing an autonomous driving system that utilizes neuromorphic sensors for real-time object detection and tracking. The system will be able to identify pedestrians, vehicles, and other objects on the road and make decisions based on this information. This technology has the potential to revolutionize transportation safety by allowing drivers to focus on other tasks while still maintaining a high level of awareness of their surroundings.
