Rupert Friend, the British actor who starred in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, has been cast in the new Jurassic World feature film produced by Universal Pictures. He will be joining Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey in the film directed by Gareth Edwards. The script for this new installment of Jurassic World was written by David Koepp, the original screenwriter of Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Details of the plot are being kept tightly under wraps.
The movie is set to begin production in mid-June in London, with a planned theatrical release date of July 2, 2025. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who have been instrumental in guiding the modern Jurassic franchise, are producing the film through Kennedy-Marshall. Steven Spielberg, who launched the franchise in 1993 with Jurassic Park, is on board as an executive producer through Amblin Entertainment. Universal executives Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project.
Rupert Friend has become a frequent collaborator with Wes Anderson, appearing in The French Dispatch and Asteroid City. He can currently be seen in Anderson’s short films based on Roald Dahl stories on Netflix. Friend also played the Grand Inquisitor in the Star Wars Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi and recently finished filming the sci-fi thriller Companion and Michel Franco’s drama Dreams opposite Jessica Chastain. He is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson.
