Russia and China Absent from Ukraine Peace Conference, Leaving Participants Frustrated and Unfulfilled

Moscow asserts that the peace conference on Kyiv yielded no results

A peace conference on Ukraine took place over the weekend in Switzerland, with representation from over 90 countries. However, Russia and China were notably absent, causing some frustration among participants. Despite this, a majority of participating countries signed a declaration in support of Ukraine’s independence and territorial sovereignty.

The Kremlin declared that the conference yielded “zero” results, with the Russian presidency spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, stating that any serious discussion about the conflict would require the presence of Russia. This was a disappointment for many countries who had hoped to see progress towards resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Moscow initiated a military operation against Ukraine in February 2022, leading to ongoing conflict and tensions. The conference highlighted the challenges of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict without the participation of key players like Russia. The situation remains complex, with continued efforts needed to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
