In a recent update, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released figures on the losses suffered by the Russian army during military operations in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. The report accounts for the 860th day of conflict and includes data from the previous day.
The data reveals that Russia has suffered significant losses in personnel, aircraft, helicopters, tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems, air defense systems, and other military equipment utilized during operations on Ukrainian soil. The General Staff reports that these losses have accumulated over time and showcase the toll that the conflict has taken on the Russian military.
It’s important to note that these figures do not include losses incurred by Russian aircraft and sea vessels due to actions outside of Ukrainian territory. This distinction is crucial in understanding the full extent of Russian military losses during the conflict.
In December 2023, declassified US intelligence documents revealed shocking casualty estimates within Russia’s army in Ukraine. The numbers are said to be over 315 thousand servicemen killed or wounded since February 24th, with estimates suggesting an 18-year setback due to modernization efforts being significantly impacted by this conflict.
Verified reports suggest that both Russian army personnel and pro-Russian military structures operating within Ukraine have experienced heavy casualties. While estimates put total Russian military personnel killed at around 56,900 (with a possibility for higher casualties), exact numbers for injured and captured individuals remain unknown due to lack of information release from Russia’s side. These statistics underline how intense and massive this conflict is becoming each day.
However, while those figures paint a stark picture for Russia’s forces, civilian casualties caused by this conflict have also been devastating in Ukraine itself. According to UN reports about 11 thousand Ukrainian civilians have already been killed since February 24th with over 20 thousand others injured – numbers which are considered conservative; actual toll may be much higher indeed . Mariupol stands out as one of hardest hit areas with local authorities reporting high number of civilian casualties there too .
