Saints Sign Experienced Tight End, Waive Division II All-American Receiver

Saints add TE Jesper Horsted to roster, release WR Kyle Sheets

The Saints made a roster move on Friday, signing tight end Jesper Horsted, an undrafted free agent out of Princeton. Horsted has had a successful career in the NFL, appearing in 41 games with one start for the Bears and Raiders. He has recorded 14 receptions for 131 yards with three touchdowns and 10 special teams tackles throughout his career.

In the 2023 season, Horsted played 13 games and caught a pass for a 4-yard gain. He also tied a career-high with four coverage tackles while playing on special teams. To make room for Horsted on the roster, the Saints waived Slippery Rock undrafted rookie wide receiver Sheets, who had an impressive college career and earned Division II All-American honors twice. Sheets totaled 154 receptions for 2,440 yards and 29 touchdowns in 51 games during his final college season in 2023.

The Saints decided to part ways with Sheets despite his potential in favor of adding Horsted to the roster. With experience and versatility in both offensive and special teams play, Horsted brings valuable depth to the Saints’ lineup as they head into their next game.
