Seven Mizzou Students and Alumni Receive NSF Graduate Research Fellowships for STEM Fields

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program has selected seven Missouri University (MU) students and alumni to receive financial support for their research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in STEM disciplines. Additionally, five others received an honorable mention.

The fellowship includes three years of financial support with an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution. This program provides exceptional graduate students with the opportunity to pursue their research interests while also receiving financial support to help them achieve their academic goals.

The recipients for this year include Jacob Search in mechanical engineering and materials science, Mason Ward in wildlife and fisheries science, Yousuf El-Jayyousi in neuroscience, Kristen Barwick in biochemistry, Marissa LaMartina in biological sciences, Campbell Sweet in chemical engineering, and Laurie Agosto in biological sciences. These students have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication to their field of study and will be able to continue their research with the support of the NSF fellowship.

Those who received honorable mention this year are India Joy Matthews in psychology, Christopher Zobek in the pathobiology area program, Melissa Draves in plant, insect, and microbial sciences, Brooke Bowman in biological sciences, and Karen Talley in human development and family science. These individuals have also shown great promise and will be able to continue their studies with the support of the NSF fellowship.

Overall, the recipients and honorable mentions represent both current students and alumni at MU who are dedicated to pursuing careers in STEM fields. The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program provides a valuable opportunity for these individuals to continue their studies while also receiving financial support to help them achieve their academic goals.
