Simone Biles Wins Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award After Impressive 2023 Season

Simone Biles, a four-time Olympic champion, has been honored with the Laureus World Comeback of the Year award. The 27-year-old athlete took a two-year break from gymnastics following the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for mental health reasons, but returned to the sport in 2023. She received this recognition for her return and is now preparing to compete in the Paris Olympic Games later this year.

Meanwhile, Arisa Trew made history by becoming the first female skateboarder to win the Laureus Action Sportsperson of the Year award. At just 13 years old, Trew landed a 720 (two full rotations) in vert skateboarding at the Tony Hawk Vert Alert in Utah in 2023. Tony Hawk, who was the first skateboarder to land the trick in 1985 and is a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, was among the event hosts.

Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham were also honored with awards at this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards. Bonmati was named the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, while Bellingham won the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award.
