In a major move in the theme park industry, Six Flags and Cedar Fair are set to merge, creating one of the largest theme park businesses in North America. The merger is expected to be finalized on Monday, forming the new company, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. This new company will have a combined value of around $8 billion, allowing for investments in new rides, attractions, food and beverage options, and consumer technologies to enhance the overall guest experience.
The merger will bring together dozens of theme parks, water parks, and resort properties across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Richard Zimmerman, the current President and CEO of Cedar Fair, will lead the merged company, with Selim Bassoul, the President and CEO of Six Flags, transitioning to the role of executive chairman for the board of directors. This move is anticipated to bring continuous improvement and innovation to the guest experience at the parks.
