Smile with Confidence: Mountlake Terrace High School’s “Unmask Your Smile” Initiative Encourages Students to Prioritize Oral Health for Prom Night

Health center at MTHS promotes students to ‘reveal a brighter smile’ before prom

As part of their preparation for the masquerade-themed prom, students at Mountlake Terrace High School are invited to schedule a dental cleaning at the school-based health center. The dental providers at the center are encouraging students to “unmask a brighter smile” by getting a dental cleaning before the big event.

The Community Health Center of Snohomish County operates the school-based health center and is offering dental cleanings as part of their efforts to connect with students in a fun and creative way. A dental assistant at the health center, Star M., shared that looking good and feeling confident in high school influenced her daily life, which inspired the “Unmask Your Smile” initiative.

Having health care services available at the school removes barriers to access for many students. With busy schedules filled with academic and extracurricular commitments, finding time for health care appointments can be difficult. However, with the school-based health center on campus, students can easily schedule appointments without disrupting their daily routines.

Dr. Pallavi Golani, a dentist at the school-based health center, believes that prioritizing oral health is an investment in a student’s future happiness and confidence. Every effort made towards better oral hygiene is a step towards a brighter, healthier smile for students. This initiative aims to help students improve their oral health and feel more confident as they prepare for prom night.
