Sports and Betting Unite to Ensure Fair Play in Paris 2024 and EURO 2024: A Workshop at Olympic House

IOC-UEFA workshop tackles sports betting integrity in anticipation of upcoming major events

A workshop held at Olympic House in Lausanne on April 11 aimed to align the approaches of sports organisations and betting entities in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024 and UEFA EURO 2024. The meeting provided a platform for various International Federations (IFs) to share their experiences, connect with the betting sector, and gain new insights into the latest trends in sports betting for their own events.

During the workshop, IFs had the opportunity to enhance their understanding of how to prevent the manipulation of competitions and ensure fair play. Presentations by the Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (OM Unit PMC) and UEFA’s Anti-Match-Fixing Unit outlined the strategies and monitoring systems used by each organization to detect irregularities and cheating. The OM Unit PMC, established in 2017, focuses on regulation and legislation, awareness raising and capacity building, as well as intelligence and investigations to prevent the manipulation of competitions by sports organizations.

The workshop was a valuable opportunity for sports organisations and betting entities to come together, share knowledge, and discuss strategies to ensure the integrity of sports events like the Olympic Games and UEFA EURO. By working together, these stakeholders can help safeguard the fairness and credibility of competitive sports for athletes and fans alike.
