Sunderland Signs Experienced Goalkeeper Simon Moore to Compete with Patterson

Sunderland signs Goalkeeper Moore

Sunderland has announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Simon Moore from Championship team Coventry City. The 34-year-old will be joining the Black Cats after the conclusion of his three-year contract with Coventry City at the end of the month. Moore has agreed to a two-year deal with the option for an additional year, providing competition for first-choice goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

The move comes after Sunderland sold back-up keeper Alex Bass to Notts County for an undisclosed fee. Moore brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played in the Premier League with Sheffield United and in the Championship with various clubs including Brentford, Cardiff City, and Bristol City. He was a key player in Sheffield United’s promotion from League One to the Championship in 2017.

Speaking about the signing, football director Kristjaan Speakman said: “We’re thrilled to have Simon on board. He’s a proven goalkeeper with plenty of experience at this level and beyond.” He added that it was important for Sunderland to bring in a goalkeeper who could challenge Patterson and help him improve his game. “Simon will provide excellent competition for Anthony, as well as bringing valuable experience and knowledge to our young goalkeepers,” he said.

Moore’s addition to Sunderland’s squad adds depth and competition to the goalkeeping position, which is crucial ahead of next season’s promotion push in League One. With Patterson now having another experienced goalkeeper challenging him every day in training and on matchdays, he is sure to grow as a player and take his game to new heights at Sunderland.
