Survey Highlights Americans’ Health Insurance and Professional Shortage Concerns, Suggesting Support for Political Candidates Prioritizing Sustainable Healthcare

A recent survey conducted by Sacred Heart University highlights the concerns of Americans about the lack of or insufficient health insurance and the shortage of healthcare professionals. Participants in the survey also showed a preference for political candidates who support sustainable healthcare over those who do not.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, has provided affordable health coverage to 45 million workers and their families, with programs like Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program covering over 80 million Americans, including 861,000 Nevadans. However, House Republicans are expected to propose cutting $4.5 trillion from the ACA, Medicaid, and CHIP in their annual budget resolution, with President Trump expressing a desire to terminate Obamacare.

Sen. Jacky Rosen has been a leader in addressing shortages in physician and nurse numbers by co-sponsoring the Specialty Advancing Rural Care Act and the Train More Nurses Act. The 82nd Nevada legislature has also passed bills to support nursing education faculty, and Gov. Joe Lombardo recently signed an executive order directing the Patient Protection Commission to tackle healthcare worker shortages.

It is crucial that we address these challenges and ensure all Americans have access to quality healthcare. As a journalist, I urge Nevadans to support candidates and policies that prioritize healthcare accessibility, stay informed about healthcare issues in the state Assembly, show appreciation for healthcare workers, and encourage individuals to pursue careers in healthcare. Let us work together to build a better future for our country’s health care system. Dr. Joseph Holomuzki
