In Colorado Springs, an 8-year-old girl was saved by police after her father held her hostage in a smoke shop. The incident occurred at the Heady Hittaz Headshop on Fillmore and Pennsylvania, where the child’s mother called 911 to report that her boyfriend was threatening to harm himself while holding their daughter inside the building.
The mother informed police that her boyfriend had a handgun and was making self-harm threats in front of her and the child. A crisis entry team was quickly assembled, consisting of officers from Springs police, UCCS police, and K-9 units. They were able to enter the building safely and rescue the 8-year-old girl, while also detaining two adult males without further incident.
During the operation, a semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene. The father was subsequently arrested for his actions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to the child during this rescue mission. This success can be attributed to the quick and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies working together to ensure the safety of the young girl.
